Adventure Sync is a feature in Pokemon Go that lets you track steps and earn rewards without even opening the app. The feature was added to the game with the Version 1.93.1 update in late-2018 and requires no in-app purchase to use.

How Does Pokemon Go Adventure Sync Work?

Pokemon Go’s Adventure Sync connects with the built-in Apple Health on iPhone and Google Fit on Android. These services, once enabled, essentially turn a mobile device into a pedometer that can track the number of steps taken and distance traveled.

This data is then synced with the Pokemon Go app, and the extra activity is added to your game file.

How to Turn on Adventure Sync in Pokemon Go

  • Open the Pokemon Go app on your smartphone.
  • Tap the Poke Ball icon.
  • Tap Settings.
  • Tap the circle next to Adventure Sync.
  • A confirmation message will pop up. Tap Turn It On > OK.
  • The Adventure Sync feature is now be enabled in Pokemon Go.

Benefits of Using Adventure Sync in Pokemon Go

Pokemon Go encourages users to move more by connecting a variety of in-game tasks and quests to real-world physical activity.

Due to the need to track data in the background, using Adventure Sync does use more battery power. However, this extra usage isn’t significant, especially on newer smartphone models.

These instructions are identical for the iOS and Android version of Pokemon Go.

Open the Pokemon Go app on your smartphone.

Tap the Poke Ball icon.

Tap Settings.

Tap the circle next to Adventure Sync.

A confirmation message will pop up. Tap Turn It On > OK.

The Adventure Sync feature is now be enabled in Pokemon Go.

Before the addition of the Adventure Sync feature, a lot of these tasks took a long time to complete, as users would need to have the Pokemon Go app open on their device to track their steps and location. Now, the app counts an entire day’s worth of activity as long as the player has their smartphone on them and Adventure Sync enabled.

Here are some of the features that are easier with Adventure Sync:

There is no limit to how much walking Adventure Sync can track. If you have the feature enabled and go a month without opening Pokemon Go, when you do open it again, all of your steps from the past month will be immediately imported into your game.

  • Hatching Pokemon eggs: Eggs in Pokemon Go can only be hatched by walking a set distance. 5km eggs hatch after walking 5km, 10km eggs hatch after walking 10km, and so on. Hatching eggs in Pokemon Go is much faster with Adventure Sync due to the extra steps that are registered.Earning Pokemon candy: Adding a Pokemon as your buddy and walking with it will earn you that Pokemon’s type of candy which can be used to evolve it and others in its evolution chain. The more you walk, the more candy you’ll earn.Completing walking quests: Some field research quests require you to walk a certain distance with a specific Pokemon. Adventure Sync makes these sorts of activities much faster and easier to complete.

Pokemon Go Adventure Sync Rewards

In addition to making certain tasks easier and faster to complete, the Adventure Sync feature also rewards players with a variety of items at 9 am every Monday based on how much walking they’ve done over the last seven days.

Here are the rewards that are unlocked and the required travel distance to get them.

Pokemon Go seems to guestimate distance traveled based on steps taken rather than registering a player’s geographical location. This means you can log several kilometers walking or running on a treadmill even though you’re in the same spot for the duration of the activity.

  • 5km: 20 Poke Balls.25km: 20 Poke Balls, 10 Great Balls, 500 Stardust, one Rare Candy, and one 5km egg.50km: 20 Poke Balls, 10 Great Balls, five Ultra Balls, four Rare Candy, 1,500 Stardust, one 5km egg, and one 10km egg.
