Inspired by Bartertown from the Mad Max series, Junkertown is one of the favorite maps in Overwatch 2’s Escort game mode. This map of the remote inland region of Australia is home to Junkers and the Junker Queen. But players are unable to play on the map as the devs have disabled the map in all queues. So today let’s look at why the Junkertown map is disabled & removed in Overwatch 2 queues, and when is it coming back.
Why is Overwatch 2 Junkertown Map Disabled & Removed from Queues
Junkertown is temporarily disabled & removed from queues in Overwatch 2 since 20th October 2022 due to a bug that causes frame drops for all players in the server. The bug starts mainly due to particle effects in the map that drops the frame rates of every player in the server (especially if the effects are within your viewpoint). The devs are working on this bug and the map will be back on the game queue with the event + patch update on 25th October 2022. Both Bastion & Torbjörn will also return to the game in this patch update.
The issue mainly happens if you attack an item in the attacker’s spawn room. This will start particle effects that will reduce performance with significant frame drops for players in the server. Some players say it only affects you if you look at the effects, while others faced the issue outside of the spawn room too. Here’s an example from a few Redditors:
