Microsoft has updated the Update Assistant tool to install Windows 20H2 (October 2020 Update), if your device is not getting the new semi-annual update through Windows Update.

On Windows 10, the “Update Assistant” is an utility meant to download feature updates on a computer that isn’t receiving the new version via Windows Update for unknown reasons, and the hardware and software configuration is compatible with the new release. The utility is like the Media Creation Tool, but the difference is that you can only perform an in-place upgrades to the latest version available at that time.

Download Windows 10 20H2 with Update Assistant

You should always wait until you receive a notification automatically about the new version, but if you want to upgrade immediately despite the risks, you can download the Windows 10 20H2 Update Assistant by clicking the Update Now button from the Microsoft software support download page.

After the installer downloads on the device, double-click the Windows10Upgrade9252.exe file to launch the tool, and click the Update Now button.

Once the device is checked for compatibility, the latest build of the Windows 10 October 2020 Update will begin downloading, and then you’ll need to click the Restart Now button to complete the installation. Usually, the process using the Update Assistant should take less than an hour to complete.

If you’re already running the May 2020 Update, you should upgrade using the Windows Update in the Settings app. You should only consider using this tool to upgrade a device running version 1909, November 2019 Update, or earlier release. Also, before proceeding, make sure to use this guide to avoid problems and errors during the upgrade process.
