Microsoft begins the roll out of Windows 10 build 16179 for testers with PCs enrolled in the Fast ring of the Windows Insider Program. This new release is part of the Windows 10 Redstone 3 update due later this year, and it includes a few changes and features over the previous build.
Windows 10 build 16179, according to the company, continues the efforts to improve battery life with a new Power Throttling feature, and for developers there is a new option to revert changes using a virtual machine with Hyper-V.
Along with the new changes, this new Windows 10 Redstone 3 update includes a number fixes and known of issues that you should be aware of before installing.
What’s new on Windows 10 build 16179
In this new flight, Microsoft is reintroducing Power Throttling, which is a new feature to improve battery life on devices.
The idea behind Power Throttling is to reduce the amount of processor cycles for apps in the background, prioritizing apps working in the foreground, and certain other apps. According to the company, users should see an increase of up to 11 percent battery life saving.
Microsoft’s virtualization technology, Hyper-V is also getting Revert VM, a feature that allows you to quickly undo changes on a virtual machine. With this new feature, you can always revert to the last time you started a virtual machine if you make a mistake.
Alongside the new features, Windows 10 build 16179 also includes a number fixes and other improvements.
For example, the existing Group Policy to disable the lock screen is now available for those on the Windows 10 Pro. This release also fixes problems with desktop apps converted to Universal Windows Platform apps, it also addresses a rendering issue with multiple monitor setup configuration, and a lot more.
What’s new on Windows 10 Mobile build 15205
In addition, Microsoft also released Windows 10 Mobile build 15205 to the Fast ring. This new preview is only one single build higher than the one the company rolled out previously, and there is nothing new other than a few minor known issues.
As a reminder, the software giant is planning to launch the Windows 10 Creators Update for mobile devices on April 25th.

Windows 10 build 16179 for PC is available immediately through the Fast ring. It’ll download and install automatically on your device, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
