In Windows 10, Microsoft is slowly beginning to merge all the Control Panel settings to the Settings app. One of the settings already included in the Settings app is Personalization, which allows users to set a new background, configure the lock screen, and change colors. Not only that, but Windows 10 offers different options to enable or disable transparency for the Start menu, taskbar, and Action Center.

There are different ways to get access to the Personalization settings: You can right-click on the desktop, click on Display settings, click the back button to go to the main section, and click Personalization. Alternatively, you can launch the Start menu, click Settings, and then click on Personalization.

In addition, while in Personalization, you can click the pin-icon in the top-right corner to pin Personalization to the Start menu for faster access.

Now that you know how to get access to the settings to personalize Windows 10 let’s look at the Colors options. The new Microsoft’s operating system brings the old personalization settings found in Control Panel and it adds a few new options. In Windows 10, users now have the option to decide whether to show a color scheme on the taskbar and Start menu — this option will also affect the color for the Action Center.

If the “Show color on taskbar and Start menu” is turned Off, then you’ll see the new dark theme applied to the Start menu, Action Center, and taskbar.

If you have the color option switched to the On position, then the current background will define the color scheme automatically – that is, of course, if the “Automatically pick a color from my background” option is switched to the On position too. If you want a specific color, you can switch the pick a color option to the Off position and select a custom color.

Finally, you’ll notice in Colors that there is a new option “Make Start menu transparent”, which allows you to enable and disable the Start menu, taskbar, and Action Center transparency and default Microsoft has it enabled. (The transparency option is independent from the other two.)
