On January 8th, Microsoft begins the roll out of Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.63 for devices enrolled in the Insider program. The new build is being released as the third cumulative update, and the first of 2016, for mobile devices, but we’re not expecting to see any major features or changes.

According to a Tweet from Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul, Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.63 doesn’t contain any new features, instead it fixes a number of problems and a few other things “per device model.” And we can see that the build number changes from 10586.36 to 10586.63.

@thurrott Not a detailed list. Mostly upgrade fixes and other corner-case things per device model.

Windows 10 Mobile build 10586.63 is available immediately through Windows Update for those who opted into the Insider program for phones using the Windows Insider app. The update will download and install automatically, but you can always go to Settings > Update & security > Phone update and tapping the Check for updates button.

Update, January 8, 2016: It appears that Microsoft has come across and that is causing to temporarily halt the availability of the new update. However, they quickly found a solution and has resumed the roll out to the Fast ring of updates.

5/ We’re now resuming the update and it will roll out to #WindowsInsiders in the Fast ring today

Update, January 9, 2016: While officially, Microsoft isn’t sharing any details on the changes for the newly released update for the mobile version of the operating system, a Microsoft employee has posted on Reddit the changelog for Windows 10 Mobile build 10856.63, which you can see below:

  • Typing on Polish keyboard in Outlook Mail
  • Turn by turn directions over Bluetooth in car
  • Battery usage with Iris Reco
  • Reliability of quick actions settings page
  • MS Band use with Cortana

As you can see there aren’t major changes in this release, but some people are also noting that the new build actually feel faster and more complete, which would make sense considering that the company is close to finally release the mobile operating system to the public.

If you have already checked for updates and your phone isn’t seeing build 10586.63, give it some time and check again, as rolls out are never available to everyone at once.
