Windows 10 To Support Flac Free Lossless Audio Codec Files Natively

Windows 10 is just getting better by the day, Microsoft’s Gabriel Aul has revealed that natively FLAC support is coming to Windows 10.

For years Windows Media Player has been a software limited on its capability to play different file formats. To overcome this limitation, after installing Windows, most of us will install VLC Media Player and forget anything else related to codecs.

In Windows 10 things are changing. The operating system now will support FLAC as well as MKV and HEVC media file formats. This is in addition to the list of formats Windows already support, and all natively and without having to install extra software or codec packages.

For those unfamiliar FLAC stands for “Free Lossless Audio Codec” and it’s a container that can compress audio file up to 60% without losing audio quality, similar to MP3 (lossy data compression), but a hundred times better.

This is another welcome addition coming to Windows 10. With these new changes Windows Media Player may just get in the map once again.
