Microsoft is releasing update KB4090913 as an out-of-band patch ahead of the March Patch Tuesday for PCs running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update.
KB4090913 bumps the version number of Windows 10 to build 16299.251, and according to the company simply fixes a problem that may cause peripherals (such as USB devices and onboard devices) to stop working during Windows Update. Here’s what’s new in build 16299.251.

Microsoft has announced KB4090913 in the Windows support site, and it’s referred as “March 5, 2018—KB4090913 (OS Build 16299.251)”. If you’re already running the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update on your PC, this update will only address this issue:
- Addresses an issue in which some USB devices and onboard devices, such as a built-in laptop camera, keyboard, or mouse, stop working. This may occur when the Windows Update servicing stack incorrectly skips installing the newer version of some critical drivers in the cumulative update and uninstalls the currently active drivers during maintenance.
How to download March 5 update for Windows 10
Windows 10 build 16299.251 (KB4090913) for PCs is available immediately. The new update will download and install automatically, but you can always force the update from Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update and clicking the Check for updates button.
