Although Windows 10 has already received updates to mitigate the Spectre and Meltdown security vulnerabilities, in order to further mitigate these issues firmware updates are also required.

Previously, Microsoft made available an update that includes Intel microcode patches to mitigate the Spectre vulnerabilities, but it’s been only available for the Windows 10 Fall Creators Update. Now, the company is releasing KB4100347 as a standalone update to mitigate the vulnerability on devices running Windows 10 April 2018 Update (version 1803).

According to the support website, KB4100347 is available for a long list of Intel processors, including for Coffee Lake, Kaby Lake, Skylake, Ivy Bringe, and previous generations.

If you have a computer using one of the affected processors, and you’re now running Windows 10 version 1803, you can download the KB4100347 update through the Microsoft Update Catalog. The installation is pretty simple too, just double-click the file and the update will install automatically.
