• A leaked image shows off a new Microsoft Defender Preview app coming to Windows 11.
  • It’s still unclear what Microsoft plans to do with this app.
  • The Microsoft Defender may arrive soon in Dev Channel.

Microsoft may be working on a new Microsoft Defender application for Windows 11. According to a leaked screenshot (via @ALumia_Italia and Deskmodder.de), the app is still in development, carries the “Microsoft Defender Preview” label, and it’s codenamed GibraltarApp.

It’s unclear how the company plans to integrate this application, but currently, the Microsoft Defender Antivirus can only be accessed through the Windows Security app. So, either Microsoft intends to separate the antivirus from the Windows Security app or replace the app with a new app called “Microsoft Defender.”

According to the Deskmodder report, this is a Windows Presentation Foundation (WPF) application that uses XAML and WebWiew2, and it is not a web application.

If the software giant is planning to introduce an application for its Microsoft Defender Antivirus, it better come with more customization options and an improved experience than we now have through Windows Security.

It’s not clear when users will see this new app, but it’s said that it might arrive in the next preview of Windows 11 in the Dev Channel.
