Microsoft releases update to remove the “Get Windows 10” app that nagged Windows 7/8.1 users for months to upgrade to Windows 10. The new update comes out almost two months after the company ended its free promotional offer to upgrade older versions of the operating system.
The update that you have to install is KB3184143, which the Microsoft support website says “removes the Get Windows 10 app and other software related to the Windows 10 free upgrade offer that expired on July 29, 2016”.
According to the details, KB3184143 replaces the following software from Windows 7 and Windows 8.1 devices:
- KB3035583: Update installs Get Windows 10 app
- KB3064683: Windows 8.1 OOBE modifications to reserve Windows 10
- KB3072318: Update for Windows 8.1 OOBE to upgrade to Windows 10
- KB3090045: Windows Update for reserved devices
- KB3123862: Updated capabilities to upgrade
- KB3173040: End of free upgrade offer notification
- KB3146449: Updated Internet Explorer 11 capabilities to upgrade
The update was published on September 20th, and it’s rolling out to device, you can check by going to Control Panel > Windows Update > Update history.
