During the 2014 Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas many got excited to see a demo from Intel and Asus showing off a new kind of PC called “Transformer Book Duet”. It was a dual-OS computer that offered something never seen before: Windows and Android running side-by-side, with a simple button that helped to switch between the two environments.
The device was supposed to ship in March here in the U.S., however today The Wall Street Journal claims that such plans has been cancelled, because of Google and Microsoft strong opposition. Even more, according to a memo that WSJ managed to get their hands on, also confirms that Asus will also stop selling a couple dual-OS all-in-one PCs that were launched months ago.

Another big reason of Asus dropping plans to keep selling PCs running Windows and Android is because of Microsoft’s new policy to not provide support for dual-OS devices. And the other reason is because Google only wants devices that runs Android.
However, it’s interesting that Microsoft doesn’t support the idea of dual-OS running Windows and Android, but it does support the idea of smartphones with dual-boot running Windows Phone and Android. As recent reports claims that Huawei is currently building such device and it’s expected to be released in Q2, just in time for Windows Phone 8.1.
