Did you recently update your WordPress installation to version 3.1? Well, now is the time to update again! Early today, the WordPress team has made available for download WordPress 3.1.1. According to the official blog, this is a maintenance release which fixes about thirty issues that were found in v3.1 — do not expect new features in this release –. If you speak WordPress, here is a list with some of the fixes:

  • Fixes for taxonomy and PATHINFO (/index.php/) permalinks.
  • Fixes for various query and taxonomy edge cases that caused some plugin compatibility issues.
  • Fixes for IIS6 support.
  • Some security hardening to media uploads.
  • Performance improvements.

The WordPress team also said that this maintenance release addresses three important security issues that were discovered by two people of the security team part of the WordPress core developers.

You are always recommended to update, you can do that from the WordPress dashboard or you can download a copy from the official WordPress download site to have the latest and greatest. Remember to always update carefully!

“The first hardens CSRF prevention in the media uploader, the second avoids a PHP crash in certain environments when handling devilishly devised links in comments, and the third addresses an XSS flaw.”
