Microsoft is putting an end to its free Xbox Music streaming service, after December 1st, 2014, users who wish to stream music via the Xbox Music service on their PCs can continue to do so by purchasing a monthly Xbox Music Pass for $9.99.
The company originally launched the Xbox Music the same day Windows 8 was released in October of 2012. The software came pre-installed on all the devices running the new operating system. Microsoft isn’t giving any details about why the decision to terminate the free stream music service supported by ads. Though, Redmond points out that it’s “focusing Xbox Music to deliver the ultimate music purchase and subscription service experience”.
Microsoft has brought various improvements to the Xbox Music app, it brought the app to Windows Phone and Xbox One too, but it seems that there is no competition with Spotify, when talking about popularity, social integration, and service.
So it’s time to look for a free music alternative service, you can always turn to Spotify and Songza. Though, Songza isn’t a service like Xbox Music, it does offer free music streaming without ads and you can choose to listen songs depending on your mood or day of the week.
