For your Xbox or PC to reach the online multiplayer games on the Xbox network, your router needs to understand which port numbers should be opened to relay the appropriate information through the network.

In most cases, NAT technology eliminates the need for manually configuring port-forwarding details for the Xbox to communicate with the internet. However, if NAT isn’t working or if you need to set up the ports manually for some other reason, you can do it. It is possible your router’s firewall is blocking the necessary ports. The solution is to “open” the ports manually.

Xbox Network Ports

The Xbox network service uses specific ports for its IP networking:

If you have an Xbox 360, use these ports:

  • UDP: 53, 88, 3074TCP: 53, 80, 3074

If you have an Xbox One, in addition to the Xbox 360 ports, use:

  • UDP: 500, 3544, 4500

How to Set up the Router for the Xbox Network

To get the Xbox network working with the proper ports, you must log in to your router as an Admin so that you can manage the port-forwarding settings.

UDP and TCP port 1863 is used for the Xbox Kinect when it has trouble accessing the internet.

Port-forwarding refers to opening a port on your router. The method differs depending on the manufacturer of your router. See the instructions for your specific router in the documentation that came with the router or at the manufacturer’s website. You can also find them by searching on your router model and the term “port-forwarding.”
