Xbox One users who have been having a difficult time getting their hands on the Series X or Series S will still be able to play some next-gen games by way of Xbox Cloud Gaming.
In a news post on the Xbox website, Microsoft has listed a number of next-gen titles that will be coming to Game Pass. This relies on a user’s internet connection rather than the strength of their hardware, so Game Pass subscribers will be able to stream games regardless of their console model.
Microsoft is committing to back-to-back monthly releases for 27 new titles, including Halo Infinite, Scorn, Forza Horizon 5, Flight Simulator, and many more.
“.We are looking forward to sharing more about how we will bring many of these next-gen games to your console…through Xbox Cloud Gaming, just like we do with mobile devices, tablets, and browsers.” wrote Will Tuttle, the editor-in-chief of Xbox Wire, in the post,
The newest Xbox consoles have been very difficult to track down, with limited restocks selling out fast and often popping up for sale elsewhere at elevated prices.
Adding next-gen titles to Game Pass will let Xbox fans who haven’t been able to acquire a Series X or S enjoy some of what the new consoles have to offer. This potential also extends to Xbox Game Pass on smartphones and web browsers.
It’s important to note that, as with all streaming providers, the performance relies on internet speeds and connection strengths. The Verge noted that Microsoft has begun upgrading its Cloud Gaming service, which should help to keep things stable, but individual user latency still will be a factor.
